After a bit of delay, Microsoft released two updates for their Exchange Server products today. Exchange 2010 SP3 has a new Rollup Update – RU3 and Exchange 2013 has a new Cumulative Update – CU3. There are numerous fixes included in these.

2878160 “The Active Directory user wasn’t found” error when you create or update an In-Place eDiscovery search in an Exchange Server 2013 environment
2882608 Exchange Server 2013 does not share the inproxy.dll file
2886115 Retention policies are not applied to Exchange Server 2013 mailboxes when user accounts are on different domains

** You will need to reboot your server after CU3 is replaced.

Some new features have been added as well:
- Usability improvements when adding members to new and existing groups in the Exchange Administration Console
- Online RMS available for use by non-cloud based Exchange deployments
- Improved admin audit log experience
- Windows 8.1/IE11 no longer require the use of OWA Light
Cumulative Update 3 also updates your Active Directory Schema.

Notes
My opinion on the updates themselves is that we are getting small amounts of features as well as known security issues released on a relatively timely schedule. There is a noted emphasis on quality and a willingness to fix issues that come up prior to release. Hopefully now that this is public no major issues will be found. With Service Pack 1 on its way next year, I think we will see continued improvement in the quality of future patching for Exchange.
