Introduction
This is a very quick blog article and I just wanted to point out an interesting change that has come to the installation process for a Cumulative Update for Exchange. Recently I’ve involved myself with a few security updates for clients and are upgrading their Exchange 2016 servers to the latest CU and Security Patch. Normally a cut and dry process with a few hiccups here and there.
New License Agreement page
Here is the new License Agreement page present in newer CU installations:
Taking a closer look at our three options for the License Agreement … wait … yes … three options now instead of two. The top is the current default and the bottom is the old default:
Notice that the top one will share diagnostic data with Microsoft. For this who love conspiracy theories, or just don’t want to share with Microsoft, then checking the second or middle option is perhaps better when installing the latest CU. In the end it is up to you.
Learn More Link
Now, if you want the intricate details on this new option, make sure to click on the ‘Learn More’ link to the right of the options. That will take you to this page: Diagnostic Data collected for Exchange Server
Adding to the fun, if you install Exchange Updates via cmdlet line, the license switch is now:
/IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms_DiagnosticDataOFF
or
/IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms_DiagnosticDataOn
Yes … a LONGER switch. Thanks Microsoft! /s
